Stylistic influences

When we was planning our thriller opening, we wanted to portray the conventions of thriller and use theories such as Blumler and Katz. We portrayed some typical features such as the runner being the protagonist, and Iyra being the antagonist, there is a cliff hanger at the end as it is left to audience to decide what happened to the runner. However our thriller does challenge some of the codes as the protagonist doesn't beat the antagonist, this is to show that bad rules over good, which shows the views of society. Our thriller is also shot in a convenient place (woods) this shows a stereotypical thriller, however it doesn't include dark colour saturation's. The diegetic sound we used contains breathing which again is typical of a thriller.

We wanted the audience to use our thriller as escapism, so they can escape from everyday life as they may be bored and want a good scare. However we also wanted the audience to use our thriller opening for surveillance, to teach them about how mental health can affect a person and people around them, (although there are entertainment purposes).

For the word jumble near the end of our thriller opening, when the word hide and seek reveals its self to be deaden hikes, we were influenced by a previous students work. We thought it adds a sense of mystery to our thriller, another common code. Therefore we all thought it was an effective way to foreshadow the ending, as there is a plot twist at the end when Iyra runs off with the runners clothes on.

Here is the example from the other students work.

Sorry about this post being late!
On Thursday me Niamh and Rae went to the locko plantation to film our thriller opening. Believe it or not we actually got everything done in one day, although we did film for about 6 hours. It was very cold that day, but the lighting of the sun worked well with the camera. We all had a go with working with the camera, and luckily we found a den which someone had already made. This added to the effectiveness of the mise en scene. But here is a picture of us at the end up of the day!
